Artwork Guidelines
We accept PDF finished art with the following specifications:
- Photos and illustration resolution should be 300dpi. DPI stands for “dots per inch” and refers to the number of ink droplets a printer uses to print an image. It’s a measure of the resolution of an image, and is also known as “image resolution”.
- All colours converted to CMYK. (no PMS colours, RGB, LAB etc.)
The CMYK acronym stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (Black): those are the colours used in the printing process. A printing press uses dots of ink to make up the image from these four colours. - Fonts should be embedded or outlined. Embedding fonts means including the font data in your print-ready file, so that the printer can access and render the fonts correctly. Outlining fonts means converting the font text into vector shapes, so that the printer does not need the font data at all.
- Crop and bleed marks included: 3mm for offset and digital jobs. 5mm for saddle-stitched booklets. 5mm for wide format jobs. Crop marks and bleed marks are guidelines that help printers trim and prepare a design for printing:
Crop marks
Also known as trim marks, these short lines indicate where to trim a page to its final size. They are printed in the corners of the page and help printers align color separations.
Bleed marks
An extra area of the page that extends beyond the trim size to prevent white edges from appearing during trimming. This is important because printers can’t print to the very edge of the paper. - Trims size of your document matches the order specifications. Trim size is the final dimensions of a printed document after it’s been cut from a larger sheet of paper. It’s also known as the flat size or finished size.
Sometimes when researching, comparing print options, employing a designer or purchasing designs you may get different size options which can be confusing.

Notes:
- A4 vs. Letter: A4 is slightly taller and narrower than the US Letter size, but the difference is small.
- A3 vs. Tabloid: A3 is slightly wider than Tabloid but generally interchangeable for posters or large prints.
- DL vs. Rack Card: DL flyers are slightly shorter than US Rack Cards but can still work for direct mailers or brochures.
- A2 and Super B: A2 is significantly larger, so US printers may require a custom setup if you want exact A2 dimensions.
- A6 and Postcard: These are quite close in size, so A6 flyers can be printed on standard 4 x 6 postcard templates in the US.
